Introducing the Life in Technicolor film newsletter
From friends and family to actors and filmmakers, we'll discuss the movies that profoundly shape the way we perceive the world.
Life in Technicolor is a newsletter dedicated to my love for the cinema and all those involved in making it, viewing it, and being inspired by it. The title is a reference to the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz which is one of my favorite films of all time, and which revolutionized the use of technicolor in a movie.
In my regular life, I’m a news reporter and producer. It largely contributes to the existential crisis I am constantly experiencing, and I often turn to movies to find the answers. Anais in Love answered the question of “Is it really all that bad to be a whimsical, delusional young woman?” Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque de Nervios made me feel less alone about constantly being on the verge of a breakdown. The Florida Project left me in awe at Sean Baker’s portrayal of poverty in the United States, and made me wonder about systemic poverty in my own community.
This newsletter will largely feature interviews with other individuals, whether they be filmmakers, film lovers, or both! I want to know which movies make people feel seen and represented. I want to understand the impact of the cinema on our communities, and how movies serve as time capsules for the fleeting years.
This is sort of like a love letter to cinema. It’s a public diary that is collaborative and vast, just like our real life world.
Movies are such a cathartic experience. A Knight's Tale is a movie I watch when the world weighs me down. It's so whimsical, fun, and romantic, it always picks me up.
I look forward to seeing your musings!
I'm so excited to read more! I also really need to check out Anais in Love and The Florida Project.
